It's a really cool concept, but I'd give Aluneth more choices with the Hero Power somehow.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Sorry that I've not been around to answer each of them. The mixed reception is interesting, so I might post a reworked version sometime if anything springs to mind

Yo this is awesome

huh. i really like it. it's interesting and adds another level of thinking... until they discover the darkmoon prize that lets them discover a new hero power, getting rid of Mark of Aluneth.

It also sorta promotes a game play strategy of losing fast as you can if you want to utilize your cool hero power thingy with the other player.
But what @Randomier said is also cool, that way of thinking.

I like how creative this is. :)
The thing I don't love though is that, for me at least, I'd rather just play another game and I realize I can just concede (I'm guessing) to do so but I'm incentivized to wait out the game and get the best rating. I think it's super cool I just worry it wouldn't be super fun. (Just my thoughts though.)

Ironically, take away the Tier 3 restriction and you'll have probably the highest WR hero. Since you'll get the same rating as the player who equips you, your goal isn't to win but to instead figure out who's going to win and lose to them.

I know that's not everyone's playstyle, but I think it's an alternate one some people would like to explore. It's not just a matter of playing as the hero power, but using your time as an actual hero to scout the best user.

Yeah why would you literally ever pick Aluneth. You wouldn't. You're just actively choosing to tank your MMR.

Ok, but... Isn't this super boring to play as the Aluneth? Literally hero power and wait for 90-200 seconds.
Mzop (3.7)3 years ago
bruh, i can imagine just taunting the person that killed you by buffing useless stuff or going Afk and eating their hero power, bruh moment right there.

@FriendlyShadow It was intended to make it hard for Aluneth to make it far into the game without being defeated eventually. Someone else commented on that earlier and I agree that it might be too limiting. I believe there needs to be *something* that limits Aluneth's longevity though, so I think reducing their maximum health to 30 might be a better idea. Have any ideas?

What is the point of not being able to upgrade to Tier 3?
FriendlyShadow 3 years ago
You are a genius! This seems like a very funny idea. Although ... very complicated.

I guess you could see it that way, it is quite a gimmicky mechanic. Some people might find it boring and others might like the unusual style of play. The Hero Power offers Aluneth some interaction with the board and can also add a flavourful conflict of interest between them and the wielder (Aluneth marks a minion they want, and the wielder doesn't pick it). Beyond that, yeah, you are mostly just sitting around if you are defeated early @ADankHeadHunter

Yeah i will admit this look cool but imo this just seems like boring design. Having a hero where Battlegrounds just becomes a spectator sport just seems flat out boring. Still a cool idea, I just would never pick this

That's... an unusual concept, but I like it.

(Sticking this to the top so it's not buried in other comments)

How it works:

When a player defeats Aluneth, their hero power is replaced with *Mark of Aluneth*. The Aluneth player that was defeated is not ejected from the game, and instead "plays with" the player that defeated them, functioning as though they were a spectator. Only the Aluneth player can use the Hero Power.

If the player who equipped Aluneth is defeated or wins the game, both players share that placement and gain the same rating.

If the player replaces their Hero Power, the Aluneth player is ejected from the game with the current placement of the player who equipped them.

Fair enough, I spent a bit of time thinking about something to tack on, and most of the ideas were just too wordy to fit into the UI. Now that I think about it more, it's probably fine to just remove the tier restriction and leave it as is. Having no Hero Power until you die might just be limiting enough. Thanks @Randomizer ^^

Really, really interesting. It's a really cool idea, and it offers a weird element of choice to the game where you can technically choose to piggyback off of another player's success by throwing a specific round. However, I don't think it needs the Tier restriction. Your board doesn't matter when you get equipped, so the Tier restriction only serves to prevent Aluneth players from winning without switching to a Hero Power, which I feel is too limiting.

Thanks so much @Bobtender :)

This is neat.
