Yeah a lot of Spell don't really change, some get worse but some get a lot better.

How are Frost Nova, Counter Spell and Glacial Mysteries improved?

Basically all numbers are improved by Spell Damage. It doesn't change damaging spells like Flamestrike since these are already improved by SD.
