Some of these comments did not age well.

Get dunked on. I knew not to say anything about the 2 mana 2/2 draw because ofc Blizzard would just do that sooner or later

Printed

What have I done to the website, I am sorry haha and I agree a 1/3 is more balanced then a 2/2
keyvnn9 3 years ago
All of this in summary: Maybe a 1/2 or 1/3?

I mean...this is just Hand Of A'dal but more consistent, still super strong but it doesn't create such a high variance like Alura or Keleseth
Caesar (4.1)3 years ago
@Randomizer the problem is they make cards with some usage in mind (Alura for example...was meant to cast buff spells on herself), but players see other uses and sometimes break the game, playtesting and refining decks takes a lot of time and effort and they would have to invest a ton more into it, like...a tooooon of time (which means a ton of money xD)
If they can choose to just wait to see how it goes and fix a card I understand why they choose that option; also, they know players like it when they nerf stuff sooo, conclusions to you xD
keyvnn9 3 years ago
If you draw this, you can summon a bonus 2/2 for 2 mana
Randomizer 3 years ago
A 2/2 with cycle would also create extreme variance between if you draw it or don't, especially in the class that lacks draw and wants early game. Maybe 4 Mana 7/7 is a bit extreme, how about a 4 Mana 5/6?
keyvnn9 3 years ago
A 4 mana 7/7 would definitely warp the meta, and that card would create extreme variance between if you draw it or you dont
Randomizer 3 years ago
Neither is a 4 Mana 7/7, I still wouldn't recommend we print it.
keyvnn9 3 years ago
This card isnt capable of warping the meta. Just like Town Crier
Randomizer 3 years ago
Of course this card isn't a toxic buildaround card. Then again, a 4 mana 7/7 wouldn't be a "toxic buildaround card" either. It's just problematic to print cards that edge on overpowered because a bunch of near-overpowered cards make an overpowered deck.

It’s in Blizzard’s best interest to have a balanced meta, you know
Caesar (4.1)3 years ago
This card reminds of Sword Eater power level...you get sooo much more than the real cost, but it's somehow still managable and so it dodges nerfs because it's not the enabler for some crazy warrior deck despite being in almost all of them.
Though I wouldn't say broom paladin is far from the best deck ahah (because yes, I'm not even thinking about the Secret synergy xD)
Randomizer 3 years ago
That's like saying a scientist can mess around with hazardous chemicals because they know where the fire extinguisher is. Yes, Blizzard can nerf cards and has improved their nerf policy in the past year, but making overpowered cards still warps the meta for a considerable amount of time. A game designer who's placing the safety of the meta above all else would not take the risk of printing excessively powerful cards like Alura if it could mean subjecting players to an unhealthy meta for weeks on end. But Blizzard's not putting the meta above all else here, to pretend like they are would be lying to yourself, they make extremely strong cards to promote new sets and use nerfs as a failsafe for the worst case scenario.

Notice all the “best deck” and “buildaround”.
Paladin is far from the best deck, and this isnt a toxic buildaround card. Just some Secret synergy

Blizzard can make powerful cards because they can nerf cards. But on the topic of nerfs, let’s look at recent nerfs for cards that were actually too powerful:
High Abbess Allura: Best deck in Standard’s best Keleseth buildaround
Hysteria: Best deck in Wild’s buildaround
Boggspine Knuckles: Best deck in Standard’s buildaround
Edwin: Turn 2 Coin 3/2 and 6/6 in 2nd best deck in Standard

Dreadlord’s Bite, Voracious Reader, Polkelt, Blade Dance, Shardshatter Mystic: Fixing DH’s 2 archetypes which were, wait for it, the best in the game. Was still high tier after nerfs for power context

Dinotamer Brann: Preemptive nerf because of predicted meta after DH nerfs. Not the best deck, but definitely buildaround
Caesar (4.1)3 years ago
Exactly, this is still "just a 2/2", the effect is incredibly strong but both a 2 mana 2/2 and a 2 mana card draw are balanced and putting them together makes a "sleeper op card"; in the way that it's run basically everywhere but doesn't swing incredibly too much when you play it (while still being op)
Randomizer 3 years ago
My approach to custom cards is to not design like Blizzard designs cards. Blizzard is incentivized to design cards for the purpose of selling a set, so powercreep is encouraged. But we're not incentivized to do so, we're not selling anything, so why should we intentionally powercreep playable cards at the risk of making an OP card?
keyvnn9 3 years ago
Back in the day I thought the way to balance cards was to make them only as strong as they needed to be for a chance to be played (still my preference). Now Blizzard seems to be making them as strong as possible.

And if this was printed in an expansion, I dont think it would be nerfed
FriendlyShadow 3 years ago
Maybe it's not a super strong thing.
FriendlyShadow 3 years ago
2 mana 2/2 with a card draw is not balanced for me. But IDK...
keyvnn9 3 years ago
2/2 is stronger than I would make it, definitely.
But Blizzard could print it in a year or 2 and I wouldnt be surprised
Randomizer 3 years ago
Still, a 2 Mana 2/2 that draws a card unconditionally is too strong
platypus2173 3 years ago
its like the runaway cheat or something, except you have to rng it
keyvnn9 3 years ago
Would be completely fine as 1/2 or 2/1 given the recent power
Loxeres 3 years ago
This ain't no draenei. Also 2 mana 2/2 draw a card with a potential upside of being able to draw another is just a bit too ahead of the powercreep levels we're at right now.
