I also think this is maybe on the weaker side, but feels perfect for a Classic card to me

Siphon Soul will be buffed to 5 mana in a month, Cascading Disaster is random, Brittlebone is 6 at base cost

But I think I'm overexaggerating how weak I think this card is. As it stands, I just think it's a little weak, too strong for 2 Mana but weirdly too weak for 3. I'm not arguing any sweeping changes to this card, so I'm not sure why I'm arguing so hard here.

Siphon Soul got buffed to 5 Mana
This is also the same class that got Cascading Disaster, a new Penance, and Brittlebone Destroyer. While not as much hard removal as say, Rogue, there's no shortage of early game or late game removal in Warlock.

My bad, forgot Impbalming

As of right now, Warlock’s cheapest hard removal options are all 6 mana. This is actually half of that.

Whether it can be used in aggro... depends on how much discard synergy we see. Would be very good in wild, but I can't say the same for standard, hence the problem arises again.

Goddamnit this is why balancing discard's so hard now, the balance between wild and standard is so different there's no in-between. That list uses Lakkari Felhound, which is somehow .5 Mana per card, just because discard's usually an upside in the deck.

To rebut, *very* cheaply is an overstatement, it's 1 Mana cheaper than assassinate with the huge cost of an additional card. You'd never use that cost in control, so you need to justify hard removal in aggro. In that case, 3 Mana is not cheap because that's Mana you should be using for board development.

As for this card being justifiable, it follows guidelines that balanced cards use and gives Warlock a way to *very* cheaply remove minions

Well can you suggest a good justification for this card being not weak besides "1 discard = 1 Mana," because that one's even more arbitrary than comparing it to the playrate of other discard cards.
keyvnn9 3 years ago
“I dont remember this being played” has never been good justification for saying a card is too weak
Randomizer 3 years ago
Wild has such a high saturation of discard-synergy cards that discard might as well be an upside there, if we designed every discard card based on how it would do in Wild we would never have a good Standard discolock again

I don't remember Felstalker being played even in either of those cases, since those decks more consistently hit Boneweb or Hand with other cards. I saw a few decks floating around with it, but I don't think a polished list ever did.

Darkshire being a Wild card

Wild

Actually probably 1 year. I dont remember exactly when I checked this but Felstalker was probably either Hand of Gul’dan expansion or Boneweb expansion
Randomizer 3 years ago
Are you talking Wild or Standard?
keyvnn9 3 years ago
Felstalker and Darkshire have both been very good cards within the last 2 years.
Randomizer 3 years ago
Between Soulfire being 2 Mana for discard, Felstalker being super unplayable being 1 Mana for discard, Darkshire not seeing play despite being 1(.5?) Mana for discard, I'd disagree. Nowadays discard is controlled so that the downside isn't as bad, but discard random 1 doesn't seem like 1 Mana.
keyvnn9 3 years ago
That’s actually almost exactly how much Discard 1 translates to
Randomizer 3 years ago
I can see why this isn't in the gallery: this is kinda weak. Assassinate's 4 Mana now, Siphon's 5, and discarding a random card is still a huge downside in standard regardless of discard synergy. 1 Mana discount probably doesn't translate to losing a random card.

I have no idea how this isn’t in the gallery already.
Let’s fix that
